Labor Advocacy Group Hosts 'Labor Pulse' Forum to Influence Pre-Election Policy
The event, themed "Labor Pulse," brought together key stakeholders to discuss the challenging landscape of labor rights in Thailand's evolving economic structure. Recognizing that "we are all workers" and that workers' voices are the compass for the country's future, the forum focused on addressing the needs of informal workers who have become the primary economic gear but lack legal protection. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Achara Chalayondnawinn, Dean of the Faculty of Social Administration at Thammasat University, emphasized the urgent need for adaptive labor laws that comprehensively cover all worker groups, especially vulnerable sectors like motorcycle taxi drivers and freelancers. The collaborative event involved multiple organizations, including Thammasat University, the Health Promotion Foundation, and women's rights foundations. Their goal is to generate new policy ideas that can improve working conditions and align national labor policies with current and future economic realities. Panelists highlighted the importance of workers' rights to unionize, collective bargaining, and creating more balanced work-life conditions. They stressed that labor policy should not be solely determined by the government but should involve extensive input from workers and academic experts.
