Truck Snags Power Lines at Bang Pu Industrial Estate, Over 70 Electricity Poles Collapse
On January 30, 2024, a truck accident caused extensive damage to the electrical infrastructure in the Bang Pu Industrial Estate area. The incident resulted in over 70 electrical poles (12 meters high) collapsing along a nearly 2-kilometer stretch, creating widespread power outages.
Pasuthon Rattanakam, an electrical engineer from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), reported that the damage begins from the curve near Muang Samut Hospital and extends to Tambon Bang Pu Municipality Soi 81. Both medium and low-voltage power lines were severely damaged.
Emergency response teams have been mobilized from neighboring districts and central areas to address the situation. The MEA expects repair work to be completed around 11:00 PM today. Temporary pole adjustments are being made to restore electricity to residents as quickly as possible.
Preliminary damage assessments suggest the costs could reach several million baht. Additional damage was found to street lighting, CCTV poles, and bus stop structures. The Bang Pu Municipality and related agencies will conduct a detailed damage evaluation.
Currently, electricity can only be partially restored, with many areas still without power due to equipment damage. The exact timeline for full restoration remains uncertain as repair teams continue their emergency efforts.
